Indianapolis, Ind. – Spring is in the air in central Indiana, and that could only mean one thing to Hoosiers—May is on the horizon.
To officially kick off racing season in Indy, eight drivers from four teams participated in a closed test on Thursday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road course in preparation for the Sonsio Grand Prix on May 10. Those four teams included AJ Foyt Racing (Santino Ferrucci, David Malukas), Chip Ganassi Racing (Dixon, Palou, Kyffin Simpson), Dale Coyne Racing (Jacob Abel) and Juncos Hollinger Racing (Conor Daly, Sting Ray Robb).
Making his 17th start in the Sonsio Grand Prix at Indianapolis, Scott Dixon showed that he will still be a force to be reckoned with in May, turning the quickest lap on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course during the private test. With this being a closed test, no lap times or speeds were officially recorded. Dixon has completed 100 percent of the laps in his 16 Indy Road course starts, with 107 laps led, two victories, and five podium finishes.
Thursday’s closed test will not be the last time the NTT IndyCar Series will test at the infamous speedway. On April 23 and 24 the series will hold a larger open test on the famed 2.5-mile oval, in preparation for the 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge. Teams have not officially been announced for that April test.
